Answers to the questions we are asked most often about organizing, moving, downsizing, estate work, and household management. If you do not see yours here, please get in touch.

Getting started

Do I need to buy organizing products or storage before we begin?

No, and we would ask that you not buy anything in advance. We assess the space first, then recommend storage and products suited to your home, your aesthetic, and the way you live. Buying ahead almost always produces the wrong solutions and unnecessary expense. We source and procure everything on your behalf and return whatever is not used.

What we do

What services does In Order to Succeed offer?

We work across eight areas: home and office organizing; move management and relocation for homes and offices; senior move management and downsizing; estate management and clearing; property management; life management and concierge support; home inventory; and administrative and document management. We also handle college and dorm moves. Many clients engage us for one and find that several connect.

Can you manage a move as well as the organizing?

Yes, and the two work best together. A mover transports belongings. We manage everything surrounding that: planning the move, obtaining and comparing proposals, overseeing packing and unpacking, and setting up each room so the new home functions from the first day. We handle home and office moves alike.

Do you work with seniors and families who are downsizing?

Yes. Senior move management is a distinct practice within the firm and we are a member of the National Association of Senior and Specialty Move Managers. We help families sort a lifetime of belongings with patience, coordinate the move, and manage what stays, sells, is donated, or passes to family. These transitions carry weight for everyone involved and we approach them accordingly.

Can you manage a home or property while I am away?

Yes. We coordinate vendors and deliveries, oversee projects and routine upkeep, and keep a household running whether you are traveling, between residences, or simply short on time.

Do you help settle an estate?

Yes. We manage estate clearing and the administration surrounding it, working alongside families and their advisors. The work can be handled with as much or as little family involvement as is wanted, which matters a great deal when a household is being dispersed after a loss.

Can you help a student move into or out of college housing?

Yes. We handle dorm and off-campus setup, storage between terms, and the move home at the end of the year. It is a small project with an outsized effect on how a semester begins.

Do you create a home inventory?

Yes. A documented inventory of your belongings supports insurance coverage, estate planning, and any future transition. It makes settling a claim or administering an estate substantially easier, and it is far simpler to create before it is needed than after.

Working with us

What areas do you serve?

We serve clients throughout New York, Connecticut, and southeast Florida, including New York City, Westchester, the Hamptons, Brooklyn, and Fairfield County. If you are just outside these areas, please reach out and we will tell you how we can help.

Is your team insured and professionally affiliated?

Yes. In Order to Succeed is a fully insured professional team. We hold NAPO Golden Circle status, a designation reserved for members of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals in good standing for five or more years, and we are a member company of the National Association of Senior and Specialty Move Managers. These affiliations reflect an ongoing commitment to training, ethics, and best practice on every project.

How long does a project take?

It depends on four things:

  • The size of the space and the volume of belongings within it
  • How quickly decisions are made, which varies considerably and is nothing to apologize for
  • The category of material involved, since papers and photographs take far longer than linens or kitchenware
  • The level of detail you want in the finished space

A single room such as a kitchen or closet is often complete in a day or two. A whole home project or a full relocation runs longer and is generally phased. We give you a realistic timeline once we have seen the space.

Will you help maintain the systems over time?

Yes. The systems we design are built to be sustainable day to day, and we remain available for periodic maintenance sessions, seasonal resets, and support after a change in circumstances. Many clients bring us back as their households evolve.

Privacy and discretion

I am embarrassed about my clutter and uneasy about anyone seeing it.

Please do not be. There is no judgment here. We have seen every kind of space, and we understand that clutter accumulates during life’s busiest and hardest seasons rather than through any failing. Our team is discreet, compassionate, and focused entirely on helping you move forward, not on how things look the day we arrive.

Sustainability

What is eco-friendly, or green, organizing?

Green organizing means reducing waste throughout the process rather than sending a household’s contents to a landfill. We prioritize donating, repurposing, recycling, and responsible disposal, and we favor sustainable storage solutions. Our approach follows the five R’s: Revitalize, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Renew.
